Last day to work! Get it done!
Tomorrow is our last day with the computers, so get your work done! You should all be done with the Important People page at this point, so get started on your Abraham Lincoln page. Tomorrow you'll do the Reconstruction page, and then you'll be all done with this Weebly project! Use your time wisely! Everything is due by the end of the day on Friday, April 10, 2015!
Post 8: Explain the actions of the following influential abolitionists: Harriet Beecher Stowe, Harriet Tubman, William Lloyd Garrison, Fredrick Douglass, Sarah and Angelina Grimke, Sojourner Truth, and John Brown. Include a definition of an abolitionist. If you are perfectly on pace today, you will walk into class with your Important People Page completed! If you are not done with that, make sure you complete that today! When you finish, you still have the Abraham Lincoln and Reconstruction Pages to complete and we're only on the computers through Wednesday. The final blog, with all six pages, is due on Friday, April 10, 2015!
Post 7 Explain the effects of the Homestead Act, Dawes Act, and the Morrill Act upon the United States. I will be checking Blue Books today, so make sure you have those with you.
Checkpoints - don't click until I direct you to do so! 1st Period 2nd Period 3rd Period 5th Period 6th Period 7th Period Post 6: Analyze Abraham Lincoln's ideas about liberty, equality, and union, and contrast them with the ideas of Jefferson Davis' inaugural address. Find Lincoln's ideas here or here, and Davis' address here. You may have to do additional research on your own if you don't find the information in these links. You should be able to finish your Important People page today. You must include a picture next to the description of each person and your description must be at least 2 sentences long. Hello 8th Graders! I know yesterday was a long day of testing, but I am so proud of all the hard work I saw! I know that you will really shine as far as your scores!
Today, I need to check your first three pages of your blog. I need to see your NORTH/SOUTH, CAUSES, and BATTLES page before you leave today, but I am going to wait for you to call me over to see your pages. Whatever I've seen at the end of the day will be reflected in your grade. Post 5: Explain the case, constitutional issue, facts of the case, supreme court ruling, and impact of the Dred Scott v. Sanford hearing. Use bullets or columns to show each faction of the question. You can research by clicking here and here. You also need to begin your IMPORTANT PEOPLE page. Look at my page for the directions, but know that each individual on that page needs to have an image and short description of their importance during the Civil War. No new posts or pages today. All I want you to focus on is getting up to date on what has been assigned so far. To be completely up-to-date, you should have FOUR Posts done and THREE Pages done. Remember to check-in your pages with me as you complete them!
Once you complete all of that, you have a few choices of what to work on. You can work silently on something for another class. You can work on your blue book (Unit 4 is due on Thursday). You can work ahead on the Important People Page. You can play around with some of the features on your blog. Have fun and Good Luck on STAAR Reading! I will be checking Blue Books today, so make sure you have yours with you!
Pages 1-3 are due by the end of the day on WEDNESDAY, APRIL 1st! Post 4: Summarize the Kansas-Nebraska Act. Decide if this statement could be historically correct, "The Civil War actually began in Kansas, not in Fort Sumter." Use this link here to do some research. When done with today's post, continue to work on the Causes of the Civil War Page. When you finish that, look at my Important Battles Page and start working on that. Don't start this next step until Mrs. Bilodeau tells you to do so! We will all start together! Click here to take Checkpoint 13. We are taking the Checkpoints online, but the the questions and answer choices are in a different order for each person that logs in. Post 3:
Compare and contrast the Missouri Compromise of 1820 and the Compromise of 1850. You can answer this as a paragraph or in another creative way. Your posts will be graded based on reflection, but they don't have to be too long, just long enough to answer the question. Find information here about the Missouri Compromise of 1820 and the Compromise of 1850. When done with that post, continue to work on your Causes of the Civil War page. This page should be done by tomorrow at the latest (preferably today!), so that we can continue to create a new page. Remember, all of the information can be found on my page in the Expert Information section. I want you to use this information before using Wikipedia or another less reliable source. This information will be on our Unit Test and on the STAAR, so I want to make sure you are studying accurate information. You have free reign to use creativity on this site. Remember that you can play around with themes, pictures, colors, and other options that Weebly provides. We could spend a year playing with Weebly and still find new uses and options. Explore the options you have, but make sure you are still completing the work as outlined on my site. Optional: If you want to figure out how to publish your site, you may do so. By clicking the "Publish" button, you will be able to start the process of publishing your site, but it does require you to verify your email address. This part is not required, but you may play around and figure it out if you'd like. Yesterday was awesome! I appreciate the focus of everyone - it really helped our class be more productive in our learning! We were able to go through many of the options we have when using Weebly and we were able to set up our first page and our first post! Great work!
So far, you should have the following things done: Page 1: North / South Differences with a T-Chart comparing the North and South and a few sentences on Sectionalism at the bottom. Post 1: Compare and contrast the impact of slavery on the North, South, and West. Most days will start with a new post and every other day will have a new page. Here are the directions for today! Post 2: On your blog page, write a new post answering the following prompt: Explain the roles of John C. Calhoun, Henry Clay, and Daniel Webster in compromises before the Civil War. Summarize their views on states' rights. You can find information by clicking here. Remember, your posts don't have to be too long, just long enough to answer the question. Your posts aren't meant to take too long - they are just like warm ups! Page 2: Create a new page called Causes of the Civil War. (Make sure you click "Add Page" or else you will simply change the name of one of your old pages.) You will set it up to look like my Causes of the Civil War page. First, complete the Connect to Self as described at the top of my page. Then, create a three-columned chart, similar to mine in that they each have a title, image, and space for notes. Underneath that goes your timeline with a brief explanation of what happened in each year. Finally, add another image and complete the concluding Connect to Self. The Causes page will be due on Thursday! Whew! Yesterday was crazy exhausting, and we didn't get much done. That's okay! We'll get a system figured out and be moving before you know it!
The reason Weebly was having so many problems is because it will only allow students to login with a gmail account. If you have one or would like to create one so that you can take part in the blogs, please do so before continuing today. I know 1st through 3rd may have to do this more than other class periods. If you do not have a Gmail account but would still like to do the blogs instead of Prezi, please ask me for assistance and I will help you login and create a blog with one of my email addresses. Many of you finished the North / South Differences Page for homework last night, which means you are up to date! If you didn't finish that, please do so today. After finishing the North / South Differences page, please write your first blog post on your Blog page. Answer the question listed in yesterday's directions. When your North / South Differences page and your first Blog Post are completed, please look to the Causes of the Civil War Page and create your own following the directions listed there. Let's have a great day! |
